Penicuik / Birch Crescent

This ambitious project involved transforming a sloped garden with a triangular shape into a harmonious and pleasant multi-level space with Japanese Brushwood sleepers for the raised planters and various seating areas as well as Corten Steel fountain and trellis. We really love the result of using Brushwood sleepers with the innovative *Yakisugi Japanese technology.

The Outcome

*Yakisugi (焼杉) can be literally translated as “burned cedar”. It has been used as a traditional method to protect timber siding surfaces, mostly for exterior cladding on traditional Japanese houses, when there was still no means of chemical wood protection. This method of Yakisugi improves siding longevity by preventing decay; insect and mold infestation; makes the planks more dimensionally stable and improves fire retardancy. The garden project was CO-Designed with the Landscaper & Contractor Gary Ormiston Garden Design, Edinburgh and it will be realized during 2023.
